Super-producer Ryan Leslie is turning over a new leaf, and spitting a few more bars. If you’re used to hearing him sing, open your heart to the newness. On “5 Minute Freshen Up” he’s talking about cars, freshness… you know, all around stunt life. Check out the official video below, and be on the look out for his new album Les Is More, which will be out sometime this year.
Ryan Leslie is all about giving back! An Ivy League graduate himself (he got his degree from Harvard at the age of 19) the singer, producer and web entrepreneur has taken on a new role as a professor. The Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU’s Tisch School of The Arts has announced that Ryan will be their new “Artist In Residence.” In this position, he’ll be available to critique songs and offer career advice for his students. Swizz Beats previously held a similar position, as the first ever “Producer In Residence” for the school. Continue reading
Today marks the 53rd birthday of Prince Rogers Nelson, a man that has influenced pretty much any contemporary R&B/Soul artist that you can think of. (ex. The-Dream, Ryan Leslie, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Trey Songz)
One of the things I admire most about Prince is his unique musicality. He can probably pick up any instrument in the world and play it with ease. He’s made himself legendary by providing the best in REAL, quality, timeless music. To pay tribute to the Purple One today, I’d like to share with you one of my favorite Prince tracks, “I Wanna Be Your Lover.”
Anticipation, Chris Brown, Devi Dev, Fan Of A Fan, Frank Ocean, Hip-Hop, House of Balloons, In My Zone, iTunes, John Legend, mixtape, Music, Nostalgia/Ultra, Ryan Leslie, Terrace Martin, The Sex EP, The Weeknd, Toronto, Trey Songz
Do you remember the last time you actually bought a CD?
That might be a struggle for some of you. What about the last time you bought a full album from iTunes? If you can’t remember, it’s really okay. You’re not alone.
The industry is changing, and with the uprising in social media, blogs and file sharing sites, fans aren’t as inclined to go to the store to purchase an album when they can get it for free online in the comfort of their own homes. Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free? Some might argue that leaks and piracy have been the main catalyst for the recent decline in the music industry, but I’d have to disagree.
People today are just as interested in music as they were in decades past the only difference is the accessibility is much higher. For a genre like R&B, who some might argue is completely dead, mixtapes have become a platform for artists to truly create the music that they want, without input from big brother major labels.
Ryan Leslie has been laying low. The last we heard from him, he was offering a $1Mil reward for the return of his stolen laptop…(which has since been found, and returned, however Ryan has yet to make good on his reward promise) A few days ago, he released this new video a live performance of a new single called Beautiful Lie. One thing I like about Ryan is that he tours with his own videographer…so his visuals are ALWAYS high quality. Check it out below and let me know what you think.
Ryan Leslie is the most touring man I know. He’s always somewhere over seas… but that just means he’s getting money, right? Can’t knock the man’s hustle. Here’s some video from a performance at Paradiso…
Earlier this week, Ryan’s laptop was stolen from his car in Germany. He’s offering $20,000 for information on it’s return. Watch this video for more info: Continue reading
Rihanna is always like a hit or miss in my book. Sometimes it’s on, sometimes it’s not. She’s got a new track produced by Euro DJ, David Guetta, called Who’s That Chick…you can check it out for yourself, and tell me what you think. I think this is a good one for getting ready for a night out with the girls…but other than that…well. Rihanna’s new album is on the way, it’s called Loud, and that also explains her recent choice of hair color.
One of my favorite artists is Duffy. She’s a pop/soul artist from the UK. You may remember her song “Mercy”…anyway. She’s got a new track featuring the legendary hip hop crew The Roots called “Well, Well, Well” I’m feeling it. Her new album Endlessly will be in stores on December 7th!
Early in my high school years, I had a huge crush on Lloyd Banks. He was THE BEST to me, literally, I thought he was the best rapper ever. (LOL) Needless to say…I’ve matured…but he still has a place in my heart! Banks’ gearing up for the long awaited release of The Hunger For More pt. 2, and he’s teamed up with Kanye West, Ryan Leslie, Fabolous & Swizz Beats to bring you his first single “Start It Up”. Check it out.
Singer/Songwriter/Producer Ryan Leslie has always been a do it yourself kind of guy. He’s taking it to a whole new level in his career. Last month he split with his label Universal last month, and is now working to produce his first independent album.
After seeing Ryan’s show live in Hampton earlier this year, I think this is an awesome move for him. It gives him the freedom to be creative, and to really share his gifts through his music. If anything, he’s set himself apart as an artist, because he knows how to uniquely connect with his fans. As a social media entrepreneur through his website ryanleslie.com, he’s built a smart business model to accompany his musical skills.
He played the last of two back-to-back shows at Bowery Ballroom in New York City last night to a sold out crowd (that included legendary actor Denzel Washington)…Check out performance video below.
