Proving that she is still the media queen, Oprah has nabbed the first interview with Whitney Houston‘s family since her untimely passing last month. As a part of her show “Oprah’s Next Chapter” on OWN, the interview she taped last week in Atlanta with Patricia Houston (Whitney’s former manager & confidant) Gary Houston (her brother) and her 19-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina will air this coming Sunday (3/11) at 9/8c. Watch the preview below:
Here’s the latest visual from Houston’s own Miss Mykie. iYo Visuals was behind the lens on this one, and let me just say that everything about the video is beautiful, including Mykie’s co-star. 😉 But, I digress.
“Start All Over” can be found on the Deluxe Edition of her latest mixtape That Pink That Green Vol. 4 – which is available for you to purchase via iTunes.
I am no stranger to concerts. As a matter of fact, my work on this blog has afforded me the opportunity to attend many shows, for the low cost of a few words of review on this site. I’ve seen many artists live, but last night was quite the experience…a great one.
I’m a fan of music, and I’m a fan of performance. For that reason, rap shows have always been hit or miss for me. I know that every young MC doesn’t have the budget for a live band, but…I still expect more than a guy standing stationary on stage, reciting rhymes from a track and checking his BlackBerry. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case with Jay-Z and Kanye West. Last night, in front of a packed house at Houston’s Toyota Center (which included Bun B, Kirko Bangz, Trae Tha Truth, producer Rico Love, and… BEYONCE,) the duo known as The Throne proved why they are the best in the game. Whenever Beyonce touches down in Houston, red carpets roll out… and trumpets sound and the sun shines just a tad bit brighter. Just kidding. But when she does make a rare appearance in the H, she’s welcomed like the hometown jewel that she is.
Today was no exception. She made an impromptu appearance at an event where her mother Tina Knowles was being interviewed and honored by the University of Houston‘s women’s studies department. Attendees were reportedly all a flutter when the Mommy-To-Be (accompanied by her amazing Birkin bag and her cousin/assistant Angie Beyince) came and sat in the audience to listen to the presentation. Of course, Twitter was on fire at the mere mention of her name, and about 45 minutes after the initial rumors began…someone found a way to snap a Twitpic. They made the wise decision of snapping it while Mrs. Knowles-Carter’s big body guard Julius had his head down… because, he has been known to smash a camera or two. o_0
The queen is home. Who knows for how long, but…nevertheless, it has been a beautiful day in Houston. Keep reading to see the pandemonium that ensued when U of H students got word that Beyonce was in their library, plus, more pics: Continue reading
I had the distinct pleasure of attending a private launch event for singer/songwriter/producer Pharrell Williams‘ new liqueur Qream in Houston over the weekend. I wanted to make sure I shared my experience with you guys here in The Uptown Lounge!
Held at Las Velas in the Galleria Area, the launch event definitely made for an enjoyable outing for my friend Melissa and me. Sounds were provided by Houston’s own DJ Mr. Rogers and L.A. Based DJ EQue (who, by the way, was rocking blue Glitzy Lips, which is like Minx for your mouth.) The man of the hour Pharrell made himself accessible for conversation and pictures with supporters, which included Houston’s rap elite Slim Thug and the legendary Bun B.
Created with ladies in mind, Qream is a vodka based, 99% lactose free cream liqueur which is currently available in two flavors: Strawberry and Peach Creme. We tasted both: the cocktail Chocolate Dipped Strawberry (Strawberry Qream and Godiva Chocolate vodka on the rocks) and then, the Peach Qream on the rocks. They were both very good. It’s the perfect drink for a girls night in, rather than a night on the town, but, I think that’s what the creators had in mind anyway. It’s very smooth, and won’t be a problem for those of us who don’t react too well to lactose. 🙂
Qream is the product of a collaboration between Pharrell and global spirit company Diageo. Pharrell was very hands on in it’s creation, from taste, to bottle design, to marketing and advertising. For more information check out the official Qream website, and follow them on Twitter (that is, if you’re over 21!)

J. Cole is preparing for the long awaited release of his debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story, by embarking on an aggressive world tour. On Wednesday, that tour made it’s stop in Houston. All eyes were on the Cole, as two rescheduled shows in Florida spawned rumors of a broken leg and more date cancellations…but he stepped on stage at Warehouse Live with a walking boot (turns out: it was a severe ankle sprain, not a break), and a Thriller-esque jacket and brought the house down. SC Knows captured the images & footage, which feature appearances from Houston’s own Trae and Bun B. Watch below: Continue reading
Wale was in Houston last week for the Roc Nation x Heineken Showcase…and took a little time out before the show to surprise fans on the campus of Texas Southern University. In his latest #NoDaysOff Vlog, you’ll see Wale shaking hands, taking pics, shooting a little pool, and giving his perspective on the importance of college (specifically HBCUs.) Check out the video below: Continue reading
