It’s always nice to acknowledge those who are achieving in their respective fields, and that is exactly what ESSENCE Magazine will do by honoring Kelly Rowland and Sylvia Rhone at their annual Women In Music celebration.
The invite-only event will take place on February 8th, 2012 during GRAMMY Week in Los Angeles. Rowland, who is a GRAMMY nominee this year (in the Rap/Sung Collaboration category for her Lil’ Wayne assisted smash “Motivation”) spent a good portion of 2011 as a mentor/judge on the 8th cycle of the UK version of X-Factor. She’s sold over 60million albums worldwide, as a founding member of the biggest selling girl group of all time Destiny’s Child, and as a solo artist.
Sylvia Rhone is a pioneering music industry executive whose career has spanned over three decades. In her most recent position as President of Universal Motown, she was instrumental in shaping the careers of major artists including Nicki Minaj, Erykah Badu, and even her co-honoree Kelly Rowland. She’s currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for both the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, and the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater.
More details will be released soon, but congratulations are definitely in order for these ladies, for whom the honors are well deserved.
