Yesterday, CNN announced that longtime anchor TJ Holmes would be departing the network for a new opportunity to begin at the top of 2012. This afternoon, Deadline broke the story that Holmes would be making BET Networks his new home, after signing a multi-platform deal that includes hosting a show on the network, plus contributions to BET’s website.
While many of the details surrounding the show are still unknown (like how often it will air,) it will be centered around TJ’s opinions on news and human interest stories. As one of my favorite anchors, I’m looking forward to seeing what this new opportunity brings for TJ, and also for BET as a network. In my mind, I’m seeing this as an opportunity to bring an Anderson Cooper 360-esque program tailored to a black audience. If this is played the right way, TJ will bring what the network’s been missing, and that’s a consistent and professional news presence.
