J. Cole released a video for one of the most controversial and poignant tracks from his number one debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story.

The visual for “Lost Ones” was shot by BB Gun back in 2008. If you’re not familiar with the song, it tells the story of a young couple’s opposing views on aborting their child, from both the male and female perspective. Cole said in an interview that this situation wasn’t his reality, but actually a friend’s. He also revealed that this track is one of his favorites on the album, because it’s a real situation that no one has ever attacked in this manner.

Of course there are many people who take issue with the way the young man responds to finding out that his girlfriend is pregnant, but I think that many people may have jumped to conclusions instead of listening to the song all the way through. These conversations happen every day; it’s just the reality of the generation that we’re living in.

The video itself is just as powerful as the song, and to find out that it was shot three years ago before Cole even had a deal proves that he truly is passionate about the message, and about his craft. Watch below and share your thoughts:
