Last night (9/29) Jay-Z (in association with his Shawn Carter Foundation) held a charity carnival at the Hudson River Pier. And this wasn’t just a couple of games, I’m talking a full fledged carnival with cotton candy, rides, games and some of the industry’s movers and shakers (including mommy-to-be Beyonce, Power 105’s Angela Yee, Questlove & more) all out in the crisp fall air, enjoying a good time for a good cause.

The purpose? Jay was hoping to raise funds for scholarships for deserving college students in under served communities. He spoke with MTV News at the event about giving people an opportunity to be great. Watch the video below:

The S.C. Foundation was established in 2002, and since it’s inception, Jay-Z’s mom (pictured with him above) has been at the helm. Now, Jay’s doing his best to help his mom take it from a grassroots New York only effort, to a world wide mission to assist families from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. It’s always nice to see people giving back right?
