I have to admit, when I went to see Kendrick Lamar at Warehouse Live in Houston back in February, I wasn’t sold.

It could have a lot to do with the interesting array of opening acts, and the extremely young crowd that filled the performance room, but I just wasn’t feeling the show.

Now that I’ve gotten a chance to take in more of his material, I can see why he is being called one of the young ones to look out for in hip-hop. On this J. Cole-produced track “HiiiPower” Kendrick reflects on the ills of society while drawing reference to some of the great freedom fighters of yesteryear.

The video combines performance shots with news footage from around the world. Its definitely one everyone should check out, and let marinate.
