So, I thought it was completely a joke when I heard rumblings of a Fashion Week in Houston. I live here, grew up here, and have never truthfully regarded it as a fashion forward city. World class city, yes. Fashion Capitol, not so much. Nevertheless, a world class fashion event took place Monday night at Houston’s Wortham Center. Although I wasn’t in attendance, I did get the inside scoop on the Opening Night shows.
Unlike it’s counterparts in New York, Paris & Milan, the shows began and ended on schedule. Kicking the event off was native Houstonian Cesar Galindo…followed by Lyn Devon and Christian Siriano (winner of Project Runway). The massive catwalk stretched from one end of the Wortham Center’s massive foyer to the other…and was lined with everyone from socialites to die-hard fashionistas. There were standing ovations…something that you wouldn’t see in Milan or New York…but that’s just indicative of the culture of Houston…warm, and supportive. Check out the Gallery for pictures from the show. If you are in the Houston area, Audi Houston Fashion Week runs through Thursday…should you have time you can still catch a show or two. Oh, and if you’re a Siriano fan, he’ll be at Neiman Marcus in The Galleria from 11-3pm today… shopping and chatting!
