Trey Songz is the current R&B pack leader. He’s on his first tour as a headliner (the Passion, Pain & Pleasure tour with Monica & opening act Dondria) and he’s preparing for the release of his 4th studio album of the same title on Tuesday. The video for his latest single, the Mario Winans produced “Can’t Be Friends” shows a vulnerable (and slightly crazy) Songz lamenting over the end of both a romantic and platonic relationship. The clip, directed by Anthony Mandler (who is also responsible for all of Drake’s “Thank Me Later” visuals & Trey’s “Bottoms Up” with Nicki Minaj) leaked last week unfinished (the director’s timecode in the lower portion of the screen was the dead giveaway.) Now, after a little polishing, I can honestly say I like the cinematography, but it could definitely be considered “weird”. It’s an artistic reach, but I think it works for the song. At any rate, his fans will enjoy it.
