…And it’s your fault she needs saving. YES, YOURS.

I’ll come back to this. Humor me for a moment if you will.

I know that there are things on television that are portrayed as reality, when in all actuality, they are just as scripted as a sitcom. I thought that more people were aware of this, but apparently, judging by the reaction to the series finale of MTV’s The Hills, that knowledge is far from common.

In this pseudo-reality age, shows like The Hills have spawned a new generation of “celebs” who are famous without any real merit…that is, beside being famous. At least in previous years, you actually had to work at something to achieve celebrity status. Now, being famous is an aspiration for so many because it seems so attainable. That could be considered an upside. Kids are dreaming bigger everyday because people are getting famous overnight through the internet and reality television. It’s the idea that “If they can do it, so can I”. The downside, is that people are also becoming famous for being infamous, and then wind up getting the same admiration given to those taking more traditional routes to the spotlight. Examples? Paris Hilton. Nicole Richie. Karrine Steffans. But the reigning queen of random and ill-gotten fame, is Kim Kardashian.

Of the people that I named, I’m not mad at any of them. As a matter of fact, I respect each of their hustles. Despite being thrust in the spotlight for no reason, they have all managed to build their brands and create reputable careers for themselves in their own empires, be it fashion, “literature”, or diet supplements.

That brings me back to Chippy D, aka Montana Fishburne (Chippy D is her alias…I know, I know. I don’t get it either.) For those of you unfamiliar with her…she’s actor Laurence Fishburne’s 19 year old daughter, who’s decided to become an adult film star  in an effort to get famous.  Here’s the kicker. She issued a press release and had this to say:

“I’ve watched how successful Kim Kardashian became and I think a lot of it was due to the release of her sex tape by Vivid. I’m hoping the same magic will work for me. I’m impatient about getting well-known and having more opportunities and this seemed like a great way to get started on it.”

Insert confused and angry face here. Now when I first heard about this several days ago, my initial reaction was: “This girl is the dumbest”…but after some thought, I realized that she’s less dumb, and more misguided. And that’s why it’s your fault, and mine.

Had the American public not bought into Kim Kardashian, or been so thirsty and intrigued by her tryst with Ray J, we probably wouldn’t be hearing this. I’m sure that Montana is not the only one who feels this way, and is probably just the first of many young girls to come who feel that leaking releasing a sex tape is the best way to get fame. (Sidenote: I was under the impression that sex tapes were just homemade tapes…not features produced by adult film companies…I guess the terms are interchangeable now? Whatever.)

There’s so much more that comes with Chippy’s story…like her ex-boyfriend: one of the most famous XXX stars…Brian Pumper. He may have been her introduction to the industry, (with THIS lame attempt at a music video, which is not safe for work by the way)…but it really doesn’t matter to me where it began. My question is…how does it end…and is it too late to save Chippy D? If not, we’re responsible for sharing with our daughters, little sisters and friends that there are better ways to get what you want…ways that aren’t legalized forms of prostitution.

At any rate, her video will be released via adult entertainment company Vivid sometime soon. You know it will be leaked on the internet way before it’s official release though…that’s if you’re interested (gag).
